Exhibition “Dalì, Magritte, Man Ray and Surrealism”

Mudec – Museum of Cultures, Milan

Mudec presents from 22 March to 31 July 2023 the exhibition “Dali, Magritte, Man ray and Surrealism”.

Surrealism was not only a style, an artistic movement, but rather an attitude, an alternative way of being, a radically new way of thinking that transformed lives.

Presenting 180 works, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, documents, artifacts, all from the collection of the museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, one of the most important museums of the Netherlands, in dialogue with some works of the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Cultures,

The museum has a collection of unique and world-famous surrealist art, including artists such as Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, René Magritte and Man Ray.

Particular attention is given to the deepening of the fundamental themes on which the surrealist research has focused: dream and reality, psyche, love and desire, a new model of beauty and through works of lesser-known surrealists, publications and historical documents, provides the audience with a 360-degree view of the surrealist universe.

The six sections present the world of Surrealism, the vision and the versatility of surrealist manifestations in the most diverse artistic fields: paintings, works on paper, publications and objects, sculptures.

Each section is introduced by a key sculpture or an iconic object, which speaks to the visitor evoking the theme of the section, and by a quote, which tells and reminds the public how surrealism was first of all also a philosophical manifest , poetic thought, gaze and enchantment on another reality.
