Palazzo Reale – Sala delle Cariatidi, Piazza Duomo 12, Milan
From February 3rd to June 14th 2026
The exhibition “I Macchiaioli” is coming to Palazzo Reale, and will be held from February 3 to June 14 next winter. The event stands out as a key element of the cultural program for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The exhibition will present over 90 works, offering one of the most extensive surveys dedicated to the artistic movement. The project is carried out in partnership with the Istituto Matteucci in Viareggio, a well-known custodian of an important collection of works by the movement and a crucial reference point for nineteenth-century Italian painting. The exhibition itinerary, conceived as a broad narrative journey, is curated by Francesca Dini, Elisabetta Matteucci, and Fernando Mazzocca. The show intends to reconstruct the arc of the Macchiaioli movement parallel to the adventure of the Risorgimento and the construction of unified Italy, of which these artists were fervent supporters.
