Palazzo Reale Milano – Sala delle Cariatidi, Piazza Duomo 12, Milan
From February 7 2026 to September 27 2026
Palazzo Reale in Milan will host the imposing exhibition Anselm Kiefer. Le Alchimiste from February 7 to September 27, 2026, an exhibition project specifically conceived for the Hall of the Caryatids (Sala delle Cariatidi).
The site-specific installation titled “Le Alchimiste” (The Alchemists) comprises 38 large-scale canvases, created by the contemporary artist Anselm Kiefer to dialogue with the majesty and history of the Hall, marked by the destruction of 1943. The conceptual core of the exhibition lies in the interpretation of the alchemists, female figures whom Kiefer assumes as symbols of creative thought, transformation, and regeneration. Through his works, the artist pays homage to historical figures linked to science and alchemy, including the Italian Caterina Sforza, along with other pioneers such as Isabella Cortese, Maria la Giudea, Marie Meurdrac, Rebecca Vaughan, and Mary Anne Atwood. The exhibition, curated by art historian Gabriella Belli, is part of the cultural program that will accompany the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
