The Independence of Peru in the MUDEC Collections
MUDEC – Museum of Cultures, Milan
October 30, 2024 – February 23, 2025
The exhibition celebrates three important anniversaries: 200 years of Peru’s independence, 150 years of diplomatic relations with Italy, and 200 years since the birth of Antonio Raimondi, a Milanese explorer and scientist in the Andes.
Organized with the Consulate General of Peru in Milan, the exhibition tells the story of Peru’s liberation from Spanish rule through objects from the MUDEC collections.
It explores Peru’s history and culture, from the Inca Empire to the modern state, highlighting Raimondi’s role in studying the country’s resources.
The connection between Italy and Peru continues today, shown in photos by Candy Carmona of the Peruvian community in Milan and images by Andrea Balossi of the Señor de los Milagros celebration.
