Mudec – museum of cultures, Milan
Inspired by The Rainbow Show, exhibition in San Francisco in 1975, Mudec from 17 February to 2 July 2023 offers an exhibition project made of different narratives related to the rainbow, understood as a natural, cultural, spiritual and human phenomenon.
The exhibition opens with a site-specific installation that the American artist Cory Arcangel (1978) has created especially for the iconic space of the agora.
It continues with several installations, from a total experience is created by the work of Laura Grisi to the study of the different symbolic meanings of the rainbow through pieces from the collections of Mudec and loans that return the complexity of the mythology of the rainbow snake, spread from the ancient cultures of South America to Asia, from Africa to Australia.
Rainbow is the first exhibition that, as part of a renewed program of Mudec, develops as a transversal event in continuous evolution. Anticipated in November 2022 by the participatory artwork #OneLove by the artist Norma Jeane in the Space of Cultures, it expands to the public space: in April 2023 will be inaugurated the mural of Flavio Favelli in the courtyards of the former Ansaldo. The Rainbow program includes events in collaboration with the Planetarium and the Museum of Natural History, and will be enriched in May 2023 by the Black Arts School Modality, a series of workshops, designed by the American curator Romy Crawford, to shape the knowledge of the Black Arts Movement.
Some artists present at the exhibition will be Josef Albers, Shusaku Arakawa, Cory Arcangel, Mirosłav Bałka and many others.
