Milan returns between 1783-1858 from Wednesday 1.03.2023 to 18.06.2023 to pay homage to Pompeo Marchesi, Italian sculptor, who lived at the turn of two completely different historical periods; in the lively environment of Milan between the Napoleonic Empire and the Restoration.

This exhibition is an opportunity for those who want to know the history of the museum’s collections and admire the neoclassical and romantic masterpieces that the gallery offers us.

The tour of the exhibition “Neoclassical and Romantic. Pompeo Marchesi sculptor collector” at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Milan will include, in addition to the exhibition spaces on the ground floor, the rooms of the permanent collection dedicated to Neoclassicism and Romanticism.

The exhibition also reconstructs the life and work of the sculptor, Marchesi was trained at the Brera Academy under the auspices of Giuseppe Bossi and then in Rome, under the direction of Canova.

The exhibition aims to reconstruct the complexity of the collection and its importance for the birth of the city’s art collections.

The exhibition is promoted by the City of Milan Culture and is curated by Omar Cucciniello, curator of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Milan.
