A guided tour of the Picasso exhibition “The Metamorphosis of the Figure” in Milan, held at Mudec, is an unmissable opportunity to delve into a peculiar aspect of the creative process of the great 20th century artist and the legacy his poetics has left to the present day.
The exhibition consists of a nucleus of paintings, drawings and sculptures from the major European museums dedicated to the artist, placed in dialogue with artifacts of African art and with works of different origins, proposing a reflection on Picasso’s relationship with the cultural sources that, through his travels and thanks to the Parisian cultural fervor, influenced him from the beginning: antiquity, myth and African culture.
Special attention is devoted to the formal study and the ideational and creative process of the 1907 work Les demoiselles d’Avignon, which despite representing a new formal aesthetic away from academic precepts takes its cues from the cultural sources dear to the artist. The Picasso exhibition at Mudec ends with a section dedicated to the legacy left by Picasso, in which works by African artists who are still inspired by the great master and his formal research are displayed.
The guided tour of the Picasso exhibition at the Mudec in Milan allows you to understand the importance of the contribution left by one of the pioneers of the study of the figure and to know the current testimonies of his artistic influence.
